Adjacent to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort & Spa is an ongoing, multi-phase project in Gatlinburg, TN. Guests can choose from a variety of accommodations at the resort, ranging from cozy studio villas to spacious five-bedroom villas. On- site amenities include the state-of-the-art Wild Bear Falls water park, world-class Serenity Spa by Westgate, and award-winning Westgate Smokehouse Grill. Since 1998, we have constructed thirteen phases of cabins, four-story mid-rise buildings, and a multitude of amenities for Westgate, the largest privately-owned timeshare company in the world. The fourteenth phase of this project is now underway and consists of two 72-unit midrise buildings, multiple 12-unit cabins, a swimming pool, a sales and check-in building, and a new laundry facility.

Serving as construction manager, C. Laney and Sons is extremely proud of the relationship our company has formed with Westgate during this project. Our staff has built more than a thousand units on this property to date, and we are currently working to undo the effects of the 2016 Great Smoky Mountains wildfires, which damaged more than half of the resort. The repair and rebuilding of Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort & Spa will occur over a period of two and a half years – only a fraction of the fifteen years it took to complete the original structures.
Awarded to C. Laney & Sons Construction through a bidding process organized by the county, the reconstruction of the historic Sevier County Courthouse Clock Tower is one of our company’s proudest achievements. Originally built in 1895, the clock tower required complete removal and replacement due to its aging condition.

For residents, the courthouse and its iconic clock tower, which rises 75 feet above the building, represent two of the most notable architectural features in Sevier County. This project came at a time when much of the county was in the process of rebuilding due to the November 2016 wildfires that affected much of East Tennessee. The new tower, which is intended to last for the next 200 years, is an exact replica of the original. C. Laney and Sons Construction was honored to serve as construction manager for this important project.

To keep pace with a changing academic environment, new technology, and other institutions of higher education across the country, many of the aging facilities on the University of Tennessee’s Knoxville campus are in the process of being significantly updated. In this case, two adjacent buildings – the 1950’s Brehm Animal Science Building (113,000 sq. ft.) and the 1920’s McLeod Food Science Building (36,000 sq. ft.) – underwent renovations simultaneously.

The Brehm Animal Science Building needed not only a facelift and additional planning for new entry spaces, administration areas, offices, and support facilities, but also the integration of new technology throughout the building, especially in the laboratories. The animal arena was also renovated to improve seating, circulation, and air quality for both human and animal occupants. The McLeod Food Science Building was practically rebuilt to modernize administration areas, offices, food preparation areas, and laboratories. Additionally, a new Pilot Plant for testing new technologies in mass food production was built up to USDA Certification standards.

C. Laney and Sons was honored to be chosen as the general contractor for this project, providing on-site construction and guidance through changes to the design and budget. Today, the Brehm-McLeod building is the jewel of UT’s agricultural campus, housing nearly 8,000 students and thousands of faculty administrators and guests each day.
A perfect blend of mountain latitude and island attitude, the Margaritaville Island Hotel brings a fresh perspective to Smoky Mountains tourism with contemporary, mountain-luxe surroundings and upscale furnishings. Completed in 2014, the Margaritaville Island Hotel is located above the shops on “The Island” in Pigeon Forge. C. Laney and Sons Construction was awarded the contract for this project, and as the construction manager, our company built the hotel room by room in collaboration with the designers and the city.
